The Specialty Coffee Association of Japan (SCAJ) is once again hosting one of the biggest coffee events in Asia. This year, SCAJ 2025 will take place from September 24–27 at Tokyo Big Sight, Japan. Thousands of coffee professionals, producers, roasters, and enthusiasts will gather to share knowledge, discover new trends, and build connections in the global coffee community.
At specialtycoffee.id, even though we are not participating as an exhibitor this year, we still want you to have the best experience possible if you’re visiting. That’s why we’ve prepared this practical guide to help you enjoy the event and make the most of your trip.
What to Prepare Before You Go
1. Plan Your Visit with the Exhibitor Map

Before you step into Tokyo Big Sight for SCAJ 2025, make sure you’re familiar with the Exhibitor Map. The event spans multiple halls and hosts hundreds of coffee companies, from green bean producers and exporters to equipment brands and specialty roasters.
Keep the digital map open on your phone browser for easy access during the event: SCAJ Exhibitors List & Map
This will save you time, help you navigate the massive venue, and ensure you don’t miss the booths you’re most interested in, whether it’s meeting producers from Latin America, exploring Japanese coffee brands, or checking out the latest brewing innovations.
Tip for you: Mark down the booths you want to visit before arriving. With so many exhibitors, it’s easy to get distracted. A quick plan ensures you maximize networking and learning opportunities.
2. Business Cards – A Must in Japan
Networking at SCAJ is essential. In Japan, exchanging business cards is more than just contact-sharing, it’s part of business culture. Bring plenty of cards, and present them with both hands when meeting someone.
3. Notebook or iPad for Notes
Seminars, cupping sessions, and booth discussions come with lots of insights. Having a notebook or tablet ensures you don’t miss important details.
4. Bag or Backpack
Expect to collect brochures, samples, and maybe even green coffee offers. A sturdy yet lightweight bag will make your day much easier.
5. Translator App
While some exhibitors speak English, most communication will be in Japanese. A translation app (such as Google Translate with offline Japanese downloaded) will help you bridge the language gap.

6. Cash & IC Card (Suica or Pasmo)
Many food stalls and train systems in Tokyo use IC cards for payment. Load up a Suica or Pasmo card for convenience. Keep some yen in cash as well, since smaller shops may not accept cards.
7. SIM Card, eSIM, or Pocket WiFi
Staying connected is crucial for maps, translation, and event updates. Arrange a travel SIM or pocket WiFi before you arrive, or pick one up at the airport.
8. Comfortable Shoes
Tokyo Big Sight is massive, and you’ll walk a lot. Wear comfortable shoes so you can focus on networking instead of sore feet.
9. Weather-Ready Clothing
Late September in Tokyo is mild, with temperatures ranging from 20–28°C. Pack a light jacket and a foldable umbrella-it can be rainy during this season.
